Mother's day was not a thing in India back in the 90's, or atleast to me. To me, everyday was and still is Mother's day.
It doesn't seem like too long ago when I was in the third grade and my sister in the fifth grade. It was one bright summer day in May when we came to know for the first time that it was Mother's day. We wanted to do something special for our mom but had no clue whatsoever.
We came across an empty washing detergent box that came in the shape of a basket. It was fancy enough to catch our eyes.We replaced the labels of the box with white paper and wrote our messages to our mom. That was not it, we left a note inside the box saying,
"Our Love for you is like air, you cannot see it but can only feel it."
(our excuse for not getting her an actual gift??)
We were so proud of our gift and our mom was even more excited and happy to receive it.
And speaking of Mother's day, how can i write about it without a picture of my beautiful mom!
Years passed, and my sister gave birth to an adorable munchkin. It was too hard for me to believe that the fifth grader with whom i found out Mother's day for the first time is now a mother.
I am all about celebrating the 'very firsts' and so I gifted her a photo book with pictures of my cute little nephew and herself for her first mother's day.
And now, I just can't believe my ears when some of my friends and family wished me for mother's day this year. Although, I will officially be a mom only in Aug, technically I am growing a little human inside me and taking care of her already. So I am a mom already!!!! OMG. This just gave me the chills.
As much as I am in denial, this mother's day was my very first and a very special one too.
Since my mother in law is living with us this year, i thought it will be nice to do something that she never does - pamper her! I took her for manicure and pedicure spa which she absolutely loved.
And the husband surprised me by planning a fun evening with friends. Two of my other friends are excited mommies to be as well, and he put on a great show with the help of the other two husbands - food, games and an evening for us all to remember! Good job, guys!
When I think about it all, I am amazed at how time just flies like it has wings. From the third grader finding out mother's day for the first time to celebrating it as one now - Oh my gosh! I better get back to work... in no time it will be the turn of my to-be born daughter to celebrate her first mother's day!
